In the era where digital narratives merge with physical reality, we are no longer crafting isolated buildings but an inhabitable game world.
The Beijing Ubisoft Project is situated along the western extension of Chang’an Avenue in Mentougou New Town. Encompassing a total floor area of approximately 400,000sqm, the project transcends the conventional mixed-use development. It stands as an open call for visionary scenarios directed at the global creative community – a bold manifesto for the future of urban gathering spaces.
The masterplan, spanning four interconnected plots, draws its fundamental logic from the digital origin of Ubisoft’s creative universe: the pixel. Urban fabric has been abstracted into a dynamic composition of extruded, pixel-like volumes, creating a stratified cityscape through a series of lifts and cantilevers. The existing metro line is seamlessly integrated, channeling visitor flows directly into the heart of the scheme. A meandering waterway – conceived as the project’s spiritual and organizational spine – winds through these pixelated forms. This aquatic element not only anchors the various programmatic clusters but also extends the ecological landscape of the Yongding River deep into the new town, establishing a symbiotic dialogue with the Shougang Park across the water.
The project is positioned as a new benchmark for digital entertainment and innovation in Western Beijing, structured around a tripartite green innovation ecosystem of Technology, Entertainment, and Wellness:
- The Immersive Entertainment Engine: Leveraging Ubisoft’s world-renowned IP portfolio, an 80,000 sqm indoor theme park and theater complex forms the experiential core. Inside, cavernous, topologically complex spaces and holographic water screens translate the hidden realms of Assassin’s Creed and the irreverent energy of Rabbids into tangible, immersive environments.
- The Digital Economy Engine: An 80,000 sqm Ubisoft Computing Center acts as the “super brain” for data exchange, supporting the adjacent esports venues and cloud-based interactivity, thereby establishing the foundational digital infrastructure for the district.
- The Life Sciences Engine: A 20,000 sqm biomedical research hub fosters cross-sector innovation, exploring the frontiers of digital therapeutics and technology-driven healthy lifestyles.
Guided by the principle of achieving the “most iconic form, the most advanced technology, and the most forward-thinking experience,” the architectural language rejects conventional facades in favor of a sci-fi pixelated matrix. The building volumes are fragmented through diagonal, diamond-cut geometries. A deliberate interplay of solid and void, achieved through contrasting glass and metal panel systems, gives the composition the appearance of a stack of crystalline, light-emitting blocks. By day, the forms project a sharp, digital aesthetic; by night, they transform into a dynamic canvas of light and media.
An integrated network of waterways and elevated walkways cultivates a three-dimensional space for chance encounters and social interaction. Rooftop gardens and internal green atria reinterpret the principles of human-centric and ecological design for the contemporary metropolis.
Here, this project is not merely constructing a plaza; it is creating a gateway to the Ubisoft universe for the world to explore – a vibrant new heart for western Beijing’s comprehensive service district, pulsing with energy 24 hours a day.
