Daniel Statham presented 2 shortlisted projects and the Studio’s innovative design approach at World Architecture Festival 2024

World Architecture Festival (WAF), the largest and most prestigious awards ceremony in the international architectural community, has concluded successfully yesterday. This year in Singapore, Studio Founder Daniel Statham and Partner Annie Statham presented the design approaches of two of our shortlisted projects to fellow experts, peers, and audiences from all round the world, sharing the behind-the-scenes stories of Future Car Park and Cloud Bridge on the 5th and 6th of November, respectively.

On November 5th afternoon, Studio Founder presented the shortlisted project Cloud Bridge in the Crit Room for Future Project-Infrastructure.

“This 21st-century habitable bridge in Shanghai presents a hyper-use of functionality and public realm, combining connectivity with the piazza of the future,” said Daniel Statham during the presentation. “This infrastructure is a spatial urban canvas that activates a destination and social dynamic, inviting a spectrum of activities – markets, pop-up spaces, performances, retail, and exhibitions.”

“The waterway was expanded in a rectilinear configuration to create a canal system that is embedded into the masterplan to generate this eco-cultural district. This filters between the cultural built environment, creating a dynamic social environment that is carbon neutral. With spaces for all generations, it is a community project that celebrates the DNA of Chinese culture where public space is a valuable and treasured national ethos.”

On the 6th in the Crit Room for Completed Building – Transport, Daniel and Annie delivered another presentation on Future Car Park, which has been in the limelight for the past year.

During the presentation, Daniel suggested. “With an integration of automated systems, cultural and commercial spaces. A rooftop garden, and external car showroom, this futuristic, porous-oasis, and public programme proposes an innovative solution to the urban parking challenges, generating a capacity of 500 parking spaces for self-driven, autonomous, and flying vehicles.”

“The affordable parking fee, proximity to all public transportation systems, futuristic architectural design, gardens on the ground and rooftop, and F&B facilities inside the towers – it is not only a parking lot but a destination, a new urban landmark that demonstrates an endeavour to support and participate in Hangzhou’s digital economy.”

A big thank you to everyone who has been supporting Future Car Park and Cloud Bridge! Another splendid year and gathering with our old and new friends – we look forward to catching up with you soon!
